Holy Fire has to do with purity. This is not about “do’s and don’ts” and law, but holiness that is rooted in love and on pursuing the divine passion of God’s loving heart. It’s holiness that comes from intimacy with Him that causes us to want to be obedient and do what pleases Him.

God is looking for a bride that is without spot or blemish because Jesus is coming soon. See, we have it backwards. We think that if we try to be good, that our good works will somehow impress Him. He wants us to begin with Him and fall in love with Him and ask Him to purify our hearts with His Holy Fire in order to consume us.

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8) God wants us to be passionate about bearing fruit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness Faithfulness, Self-Control. (Galatians 5:22-23)

When we’re in love, we want to please the one we love. So, when we ask the Lord to restore us to our first love, we naturally do what He wants us to do, because we want to please Him. This is not out of guilt or obligation but because we truly love Him and want to be obedient.

1st Peter 1:13-19 says:

13. Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at His coming. 14. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15. But just as he who called you is holy so be holy in all you do. 16. For it is written: Be holy, because I am holy. 17. Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18. For you know that it was not with the perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors. 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21. Through Him you believe in God who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him and so your faith and hope are in God. 22. Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply from the heart.

Our God is a consuming fire. He’s holy. He’s pure and He wants us to be like Him. As we keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and to ask Him to burn up anything in our hearts that is impure and does not please Him, Holy Spirit does His work in us. We can’t make it happen! HE does the purifying!

It is EXCITING to experience the Holy Spirit’s power working through us but do we desire holiness and purity as much as the good gifts that He gives? He wants to burn His holiness deep into our souls. To surrender EVERYTHING to His furious fire to burn up everything that is wicked and displeasing to Him.

He’s HOLY.

He wants our thoughts, motives, and hearts to be pure and right before Him, and it’s based on LOVE and our loving relationship with Him that is rooted in truth. When we talk about “the fire” it better be with reverential awe, fear and trembling because His fire is Holy.

So, what does a life look like when touched by the fire of God’s love?

It’s found in the following passage from the Song of Solomon. I believe that it represents the burning heart of revival.

Fasten me upon your heart as a seal of fire forever-more. This living consuming flame will seal you as my prisoner of love. My passion is stronger than the chains of death and the grave, all consuming as the very flashes of fire from the burning heart of God. Place this fierce, unrelenting fire over your entire being. Rivers of pain and persecution will never extinguish this flame. Endless floods will be unable to quench this raging fire that burns within you. Everything will be consumed. It will stop at nothing as you yield everything to this furious fire until it won’t even seem to you like a sacrifice anymore.

Song of Songs 8:6-7 TPT (The Passion Translation)

May we yield to God and trust Him with our whole heart. May we give it all to Him because He is worthy of it all.
